(Golden, CO – April 28, 2020) Charges have been filed in the shooting death of three-year-old Ruby Jackson. She is alleged to have been shot by another child. Ruby Jackson’s mother, Michaela Dawn Harman, DOB: 12-1-95, has been charged with one count of Child Abuse Resulting in Death – Negligent (F3).
On April 21, Westminster police were called to 10745 Moore Circle on a report of a child who had been shot. They found Ruby Jackson has sustained a gunshot wound to the chest. She was transported to a hospital where she died of her injuries.
According to the arrest affidavit, Ruby and another child were playing “swords” when he picked up a shotgun from the couch, “pushed the button” and the shotgun discharged striking and killing Ruby. During a forensic interview, the little boy said he didn’t know it was loaded.
Ms. Harman was in court on April 28 to be advised of the charge filed against her. At her first appearance on April 22 she was given a $20,000 personal recognizance bond. She is due back in court for preliminary hearing on May 20, 2020.
The filing of a criminal charge is merely a formal accusation that an individual has committed a crime(s). A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. See Colo. RPC 3.6
