[ARCHIVED] Use Zoom with Caution

Grahpic of Cyber Security images such as locks, email, hackers, security breaches

While we are all focused on social distancing, many of us working remotely still have a need to meet with groups of people. There are a number of applications that make remote meetings more effective.

Zoom is a video conferencing tool that has recently seen an explosion in use as a result of Stay-At-Home orders.  Yesterday critical security vulnerabilities in Zoom were announced.  One of these vulnerabilities allows computer passwords to be stolen.

There is workaround that involves tweaking Group Policy, which should only be done if you are familiar with that interface and are aware of the risks involved.

If you are not comfortable making those changes and you have been invited to a Zoom meeting, you can safely join by calling the phone number.  You can find Zoom phone numbers and Meeting ID’s at the bottom of your Zoom invite.

Engineers at Zoom are reportedly working on a fix for the vulnerability.
