[ARCHIVED] Jeffco Strong: Working Together to Keep Our Community Healthy and Safe

BCC-Group-Shot-2020

Although many of us are feeling a wide range of emotions, including uncertainty and concern, Jeffco has a long tradition of coming together to care for one another in times of crisis.

Multiple county agencies are assisting our lead agency, Jeffco Public Health, including the Sheriff’s Office and Emergency Management team, Human Services, the County Manager’s office – along with all of our county departments and offices. We are all working in close collaboration with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment to provide you the most accurate information.

Each one of us plays a critical role in preventing infection, including everyday actions:

  • Wash your hands frequently with soap and water.
  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when coughing and sneezing, throw the tissue away and then wash your hands.
  • Avoid touching your face including your eyes, nose and mouth.
  • Disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces, like doorknobs and your phone.
  • Avoid being around anyone with cold- or flu-like symptoms.
  • If you’re sick, stay home and away from public places.
  • Practice social distancing and avoid close contact (at least 6 ft.) with people.

As new information about COVID-19 rapidly emerges, we want to share more about what we’re doing as a county to keep the public safe and where you can find helpful resources.

Public Health and Safety

As of March 22 at about noon, Jefferson County has 55 COVID-19 cases. We all need to learn about the virus, how we can protect ourselves and prevent the spread.

See the COVID-19 web pages to learn about whether you’re at risk, testing for the virus and more information from Jeffco Public Health.

Jefferson County Emergency Declaration and Closures

To prevent the spread of COVID-19, we directed staff to close all county offices to the public until April 16 with the exception of the courts, those services related to law enforcement and other essential services. See more in the Jeffco news release.

Even though many offices are closed to the public, we’re still hard at work behind the scenes. Jeffco staff across the county are telecommuting. County commissioners are holding daily briefings with Public Health and the County Manager and working closely with our community. Elected officials such as the Treasurer, County Clerk, Assessor and others are processing everything from property tax bills to license plate tags to assessments. Our Coroner and her team continue to work around the clock, and our District Attorney and Sheriff are focused on public safety.  You can visit each elected official’s web page to learn more.

Neighbors helping neighbors

Our community has been stepping up to assist more vulnerable neighbors, including homebound aging adults, children and families. We know many are struggling during this time and the financial pressures are great, especially for hourly workers, families living paycheck-to-paycheck and small businesses.

Learn more about resources for food, housing, employment and more. We’re updating it regularly so please check back often for timely information.

Thank you, Team Jeffco!

This is one of our greatest challenges and our many employees are working very hard to meet this challenge. We ask our community to come together with us as one county and one community.

Stay healthy, stay safe and stay tuned for more information at www.jeffco.us. We’re here if you have any questions or concerns. Please email us at [email protected] and let us know how we can help.

With warm regards,

Libby Szabo, Commissioner – Dist. 1
Casey Tighe, Commissioner – Dist. 2
Lesley Dahlkemper, Board Chair and Commissioner – Dist. 3
