[ARCHIVED] Jeffco Motor Vehicle to waive late fees for seniors through March

Jeffco Motor Vehicle to waive late fees for seniors through March

Residents encouraged to conduct DMV transactions online, avoid offices

GOLDEN, Colo.—Motor Vehicle offices in Jefferson County are waiving late fees for seniors through the rest of March out of an abundance of caution in light of COVID-19. The Jefferson County Clerk and Recorder is likewise urging customers to take advantage of the 35 services that are available online at MyDMV.Colorado.Gov.

“The safety of our customers, staff, and the public is our top priority,” said Jefferson County Clerk George Stern. “While the individuals who have tested positive for the virus in our county are in isolation, we do not want residents who are sick or may be at a higher risk to face the added stress of coming into an office just to avoid late fees.”

Through March 31, those who are 65 and older will not be assessed fines associated with an expired registration. Customers who are younger than 65 but too sick to come in are encouraged to submit a Medical Hardship Late Fee Exemption Affidavit once they are healthy. At the end of the month, the office will assess whether an extension is necessary.

As a reminder, Jeffco residents can avoid a trip to the DMV altogether by conducting many of the most common transactions online. For vehicle registration renewals, customers have the additional option of visiting one of five renewal kiosks located at grocery stores throughout the county.
