(Golden, CO – March 2, 2020) District Attorney Pete Weir announced that charges have been filed against Gladimir Jesus Gamez, DOB: 3-27-86, for allegedly transporting a large amount of Fentanyl into Colorado.
Gamez has been charged with one count of Possession with Intent to Sell Fentanyl (over 225 grams) (DF1) and one Special Offender Count of Introducing or Importing into the State of Colorado - more than 14 grams of Fentanyl (DF1).
On February 20, 2020 a Colorado State Patrol trooper with the Smuggling, Trafficking and Interdiction Section initiated a traffic stop of a white Nissan sedan with California plates traveling westbound on I70 near 6th Avenue. According to the arrest affidavit, following the stop Mr. Gamez consented to a search of the vehicle. A search revealed three large bricks of suspected contraband. A field test of the contraband tested positive for the opioid Fentanyl, with a gross weight of 3,387 grams, or 7.46 pounds.
The DEA estimates a lethal dose of Fentanyl to be 2 mg.
Mr. Gamez is being held at the Jefferson County jail on $500,000 bond. His next court appearance is preliminary hearing on March 20 at 9:30 a.m.
The filing of a criminal charge is merely a formal accusation that an individual has committed a crime(s). A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. See Colo. RPC 3.6
