(Golden, CO – January 14, 2020) A Jefferson County jury found Angelique Cassandra Lopez, DOB: 6- 30-90, guilty of five counts for her role in the kidnapping and assault of a 33-year-old woman in Lakewood. The jury found her guilty of Aggravated Witness Intimidation (F3); Second Degree Kidnapping (F3), Menacing (F5); Third Degree Assault (M1); and False Imprisonment (M2).
Lopez was one of six codefendants charged in this case. Four have previously pled guilty and been sentenced to prison. One case is pending.
On May 13, 2019 Lopez and another woman forced the victim to a room at the Big Bunny Motel at 6218 W. Colfax Avenue. She was secured to a chair with duct tape and zip-ties. Over a period of three hours the young woman was threatened with a handgun, assaulted, and burned with cigarettes and large sticks of incense. The jury heard evidence that she was then injected with a cocktail of methamphetamine and heroin and dumped in a parking lot. Someone found her and called 911. The victim was found barely conscious, bleeding, with duct tape on her wrists, and a needle mark in her arm.
The codefendants believed she had given information to police about a crime.
Angelique Lopez remains in custody at the Jefferson County jail. Her bond is set at $250,000. Sentencing has been set for February 27, 2020 at 8:00. She faces up to 21 years in prison.
