(Golden, CO – January 8, 2020) District Attorney Pete Weir announced today that charges have been filed in the death of 49-year-old Kelli Jackson. Stephen Douglas Derossett, DOB: 3-14-67, appeared in Jefferson County District Court today where he was advised that he has been charged with one count of First Degree Murder.
On January 1, 2020, Lakewood police were called to 2535 S. Cody Way on what was originally reported as a menacing. According to the arrest affidavit, police arrived at the home and found Ms. Jackson on the floor. She had suffered multiple stab wounds. Derossett told police that Ms. Jackson was his girlfriend and that he had moved in with her seven months prior.
Ms. Jackson died of her injuries before she could be transported to a hospital.
Derossett is being held without bond at the Jefferson County jail and is due back in court on January 24 at 3:30 for a motions hearing. His preliminary hearing has been set for March 4 at 8:30.
The filing of a criminal charge is merely a formal accusation that an individual has committed a crime(s). A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. See Colo. RPC 3.6
