(Golden, CO – December 6, 2019) Contarius Lamonye Alexander, DOB: 3-26-97, appeared today in Jefferson County District Court and was sentenced to 16 years in prison for a strong-arm robbery of an 87-year-old woman in Wheat Ridge.
On January 7, 2019, Wheat Ridge police were called to the Dollar Tree at 44th and Harlan where they found the elderly woman injured. She was transported to the hospital to be treated. Doctors said her injuries created a substantial risk of death. She suffered a fractured elbow, cuts, bruises, and abrasions.
Mr. Alexander had been observed hanging around inside the Dollar Tree before the victim began to enter the store. Before she got inside, he approached her, grabbed her purse, knocking her to the ground. He then dragged her along the pavement as he made his getaway with her purse.
An hour later he was observed on surveillance video using her credit card in a convenience store.
He was convicted at trial in November. The jury found him guilty of Robbery – At-Risk Adult with Serious Bodily Injury (F3); Third Degree Assault of an At-Risk Adult (F6); and Identity Theft (F4).
