Get information about current Traffic and Transportation Projects in Jefferson County.

Ken Caryl Avenue / Simms Street Traffic Signal - Safety Modification
Jefferson County made the following changes at this intersection to reduce crash potential:
  • Flashing left turn arrows were added to the eastbound and westbound approaches.
  • Northbound and southbound approaches were converted to protected left turns only - motorists can only turn on a green arrow.
  • Slight changes were made to signal timing to accommodate this improvement.
This project was completed the week of July 16, 2018.


Pedestrian Actuated Beacons at Mid-block Crosswalks

For the third straight year, Jefferson County is upgrading existing mid-block crosswalks to include pedestrian actuated beacons.  These beacons are the Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFB) type and are highly visible once activated.

Installations at these locations were completed August 17, 2018:
  • Quincy Avenue at C-470 Trail
  • Simms Street south of Belleview Avenue (park trail crossing)

Electronic Curve Warning / Speed Radar Signs:

For the second straight year, Jefferson County is installing special electronic signs in advance of curves with high potential for crash reduction.

Installations at these locations were completed August 17, 2018:
  • Charros Drive south of Dekker Drive
  • Golden Gate Canyon Road east of Bear Road

Traffic Signal Upgrade at S. Alkire Street and W. Bowles Avenue
The span wire for the traffic signal at S. Alkire Street and W. Bowles Avenue will be upgraded to a mast arm.  For information about related construction activities, see S. Alkire Street Improvements / Traffic Signal Upgrade at W. Bowles Avenue.
