Background:
Jefferson County and its contractor, Concrete Express, Inc. (CEI), continue construction of a new sidewalk on the north side of US Highway 6 from Johnson Road to Colfax Avenue.
The construction contract was awarded to CEI in early October 2017 for $840,000.
Crews will begin work November 27, 2017 and continue through the Spring of 2018.
When finished the new sidewalk will offer safe access for pedestrians and cyclists traveling to and from the Jefferson County Courthouse, as well as the RTD W-Line Station.
Funding for this project is from an FHWA “Transportation Alternatives” grant for multi-modal transportation, as well as the City of Golden, and Jefferson County Road & Bridge dollars.
CDOT and RTD are providing administration and design guidance as part of this multi-jurisdictional project.
Project Update:
Sidewalk and retaining wall construction have been completed. Crews will complete topsoil placement, seeding and final erosion controls during the week of February 26, 2018. Afterwards, the northbound lane of Ulysses Street will be re-opened to traffic.
Concrete barriers at the southbound Colfax Avenue merge area onto westbound US-6 will be removed as soon as winter weather permits so that the acceleration lane is re-opened.
