Heading Home is now recruiting volunteers for the 2023 Point-in-Time (PIT) Count to conduct interviews with homeless individuals and families in emergency shelters, human service organizations, parks, and other places where unhoused residents spend time. They need your help!
- WHAT: The PIT Count generates an annual snapshot of homelessness on a single night, provides needed data so that we all can understand the needs and characteristics of unhoused residents in Jeffco and the larger metro region. During this one day census count, volunteers will conduct short interviews with persons experiencing homelessness in Jefferson County.
- WHEN: The 2023 PIT Count begins on January 30th and continues for 24 hours, through January 31st. You can select your preferred shifts on the volunteer registration form.
- HOW: Jeffco’s methodology this year will be similar to 2022 in that we will conduct a full census count (interviews). Volunteers may choose to participate with your self-identified group of up to three people OR we can pair you with another person(s). You can select your preference on the registration form. Lastly, volunteers will interview persons using a standardized app-based survey designed for easy access on your smart phone.
- WHERE: Volunteers will be deployed throughout Jeffco based on the geographic preference selected on the registration form.
Training & Orientation: PIT Count volunteers are required to complete a brief virtual training and short quiz at the end to ensure we all use the same approach to counting and can therefore have more confidence in the data we collect. They’ll send out this info to all registered volunteers in mid-January.
