[ARCHIVED] West Coal Mine Avenue at South Van Gordon Way Pedestrian Crossing, Littleton, CO 80127

The original item was published from October 12, 2022 7:34 AM to July 20, 2023 1:06 PM

In partnership with Alfred Benesch and Company, Jefferson County developed plans to provide a safer pedestrian crossing of West Coal Mine Avenue at the South Van Gordon Way intersection. Two conceptual alternatives provided by the consultant, as well as a no-build scenario, were evaluated for their feasibility, cost, and traffic impacts. A final project report highlights the preferred conceptual design and outlines the alternatives considered, traffic analysis, and evaluation process, and incorporates feedback from residents. The selected design includes crosswalk markings, bump outs, and a new island to provide pedestrian refuge and shorten roadway crossing distance, and push button activated rectangular rapid flashing beacons (RRFBs) to warn drivers when pedestrians are using the crosswalk. Click the below thumbnail to see the selected design.

The county began construction in March 2023 and completed construction in July 2023. Coal Mine Avenue was resurfaced as well during July, this includes new crosswalks and lane striping. The crossing and all improvements are open to the public.
