Commissioners Issue Proclamations

During their public hearing, the Commissioners issued two proclamations - - Elder Abuse Awareness Day (June 15) and LGBTQ+ Pride Month (June).

Elder Abuse Awareness Day
By recognizing June 1commissioners with staff for elder abuse awareness month.5, the Commissioners hope to bring attention to the very disturbing occurrence in our society - -elder abuse. The underreported crime statistics are staggering:

  1. Elders who have been abused have a 300% higher risk of death. 
  2. Annual loss by victims of financial abuse is estimated to be at least $36.5 billion. .
  3. At least 10% of adults age 65 and older will experience some form of abuse in a year, and simultaneously experience more than one type of abuse

Join the commissioners in standing up and taking notice, protecting our elderly and report a suspected crime to law enforcement.
 

LGBTQ+ Pride Month

Along withcommissioners with staff with for pride month. many other counties and communities across the nation and our state, the Commissioners recognize June as LGBTQ+ Pride Month. June was chosen to commemorate the riots held by members of the community against a raid that took place at the Stonewall Inn in New York City in 1969. By recognizing equality regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, ability or sexual orientation, the Commissioners are committed to promoting principles in our workforce and working collaboratively with our business community, citizens and local jurisdictions not only today, but every day.
