Project Background:
The section of West 32nd Avenue from Coors to McIntyre Street is classified as a Major Collector Road with high truck traffic. It is also identified on the Jefferson County Bike Plan (PDF) (56.9 MB) with proposed paved shoulders. The current configuration does not meet county standards for a roadway with this classification level. Jefferson County seeks to widen West 32nd Avenue to meet current county standards and improve safety along the roadway.
Jefferson County is working with Lee Stewart and Eskin Ditch to realign portions of the ditch facility and limit impacts to future maintenance of the roadway and ditch.

Project Scope:
The project includes modification of West 32nd Avenue to a standard roadway template with the installation of four-foot paved shoulders, mill and overlay of the roadway surface, and restriping of the travel lanes. Construction will also involve necessary work for the paved shoulder widening which includes clearing and grubbing, removal of necessary trees along the north side of the roadway for grading activities, realignment of portions of the existing irrigation ditch, and installation of retaining walls and guardrail.
The project will be divided into two construction phases. Phase 1 project limits are to the east of the first Coors facility access driveway and west of the intersection at West 32nd Avenue and McIntyre Street.

Project Schedule:
Phase 1 construction, including shoulder widening and roadway paving, is complete. Phase 2 site preparation, tree removal, clearing and grubbing, and grading work will start mid-December 2022 and will likely last 10 to 14 weeks (weather depending). Realignment of the existing ditch and installation of the retaining wall will occur January 16 to the end of February. Phase 2 roadway paving work will occur in the late summer of 2023.

Project Impact on Traffic:
During Phase 2 site preparation, the roadway will be reduced to a single lane of traffic. Traffic will be controlled with temporary traffic signals or flaggers. Please expect delays and be alert while driving through the construction site.
