[ARCHIVED] Valley Parkway Maintenance and Roadway Improvements, Littleton, CO 80127

The original item was published from June 29, 2021 4:22 PM to December 1, 2022 1:44 PM

Link to see larger image of Valley Parkway map.Jefferson County Transportation and Engineering presented design alternatives at the May 3, 2022, neighborhood meeting. Residents in the neighborhood preferred the improvement to install bicycle lanes and remove unwarranted stop signs on Valley Parkway at White Oak Drive and Mountain Laurel Drive and replacing them with raised pedestrian crossings. A raised pedestrian crossing is a traffic-calming measure like a speed hump that forces motorists to slow down.

See the Project Scope (PDF) which includes information about the public outreach and decision-making process that was used for this project.

Project Update (as of November 21, 2022):

Construction of raised crosswalks will begin Tuesday, November 22 and completed on Wednesday, November 23 with the intersections being fully operational by Thursday, November 24. Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, stop signs at these intersections will remain in place through the weekend. Crews will return on Monday, November 28 (tentatively) to remove the stop signs, implement the rectangular rapid flashing beacons (RRFB) at White Oak, and install on-street markings for the raised crosswalks.

See a guide for using rectangular rapid flashing beacons.See How to Use an RRFB. (PDF)

Jefferson County staff is currently coordinating with Colorado Barricade to install the remaining on-street markings in the coming weeks. This will include the remaining at-grade crosswalks at both Buckthorn Drive intersections, the signalized crossings at Bradford North and adjacent to North Ranch Road, the trail crossing north of Dawn Heath Drive, and Mahonia.
