COVID-19 ALERT: JCPH now offering updated bivalent doses as primary series for all people
Following approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration [external link] and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [external link], Jefferson County Public Health (JCPH) will now be offering the updated, more-effective bivalent COVID-19 Pfizer and Moderna vaccines as both the primary series and booster doses for all individuals ages 6 months and older. JCPH also offers Novavax vaccines for those 12 years and older.
The bivalent formulation of the COVID-19 vaccine is more effective against the strains of the virus most frequently circulating in our community. This vaccine is the same as the bivalent doses we have been administering at JCPH since their approval in the fall, and this change in prescribing guidance makes this formulation of the mRNA vaccines the only one available for use, which in turn means more protection and disease prevention than the previous monovalent doses offered.
In addition, JCPH is offering second bivalent/omicron COVID-19 booster doses for those who are over the age of 65. Any updates or changes to this, including additional age ranges, will be updated on our website if and when the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends them.
COVID-19 vaccines are available at the JCPH Clinic in Lakewood, 645 Parfet St., Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m.-12 p.m. and 1-5 p.m. Find other locations for COVID-19 vaccines [external link].
