About Us

Thank you for your interest in Head Start!

Jefferson County Head Start is a comprehensive, no-cost preschool program serving kids who are 3 to 5 years old in Jefferson County (excluding Lakewood). We provide a range of support and services for our children and families. Our mission is to empower our families to become stronger, healthier, and self-reliant.

We make every effort to meet each child’s needs by accessing support from outside agencies if necessary.

Program Options

ALL of our students will be participating in virtual learning until in-person classes begin on September 8. This is at the recommendation of state and local health authorities, out of an abundance of caution.

The following are our NO-COST program options for the 2020-2021 school year, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. In a typical year, we only offer no-cost in-person learning.

No-Cost In-Person Learning: Children are taught on-site (at our Arvada or Wheat Ridge locations), in classes of 10-12 children and 2 teachers. Additional health and sanitization measures have been implemented to minimize health risks to children, teachers, and families. Full-day (6.5 hours) and half-day (3.5 hour, morning and afternoon) sessions are available.

No-Cost Virtual Learning: Our virtual learning option provides for 100% at-home engagement in the program. ALL of our students will be participating virtually until in-person classes begin on September 8; but virtual and hybrid learners will continue at-home learning after that date.

No-Cost Hybrid Learning: The hybrid option will provide preschoolers an opportunity to have that in-person learning and socialization one day a week while engaging virtually from home the rest of the week.

What does virtual learning look like for preschoolers?

Virtual learning involves direct support from our teachers as well as the use of a few fun, easy-to-use online programs. We will provide educational materials to support this learning at home- including a limited number of tablets, if you don't have another way to access virtual learning!

EVERY family in our program will have the benefit of support from a dedicated Family Support Specialist, classroom Mental Health specialist, and Registered Dietician, as well.

Families are able to access FREE meals and snacks, either while utilizing in-person learning or the virtual and hybrid options.

ALL of these sessions are available at NO COST!
