Message from Clerk George P. Stern
Thank you for visiting our website. The Jefferson County Clerk and Recorder’s office is one of the most public facing departments in Colorado government, affecting almost every person in our large and diverse county. If you vote in elections, drive a vehicle, own a home, need a liquor license for your business, want a passport for your next trip, or are getting married, we’re the ones to help!
Given the importance of those activities, I take our responsibility to serve you very seriously. Our vision is a 21st-century Clerk and Recorder’s office. Our mission is to deliver accessible, efficient, and transparent service that is a nationwide model for local governments by engaging our constituents and empowering our employees.
Over the last few years, our team has fulfilled the promise of a 21st-century office in key ways, from greatly expanding remote DMV options to assisting customers via live chat across all four divisions. Despite record voter turnout, we counted 99 percent of ballots by Election Night in 2020. In the Recording department, we’re uploading millions of public documents so that people can obtain copies online. Meanwhile, our Clerk to the Board staff has completely digitized the liquor license application process.
In the face of a global pandemic, we developed creative solutions to continue serving Jeffco safely. We launched appointments so that customers have fast, guaranteed service in a socially distanced environment. Our Elections department repurposed an unused trailer as a mobile vote center and deployed large tents at busy sites so that voters could cast ballots outside, where the risk of contagion is lower.
While I am proud of what we have accomplished so far, the Jeffco Clerk and Recorder’s office looks forward to making the customer experience even more convenient. Please visit our public dashboard to track our progress and hold us accountable as we continue to modernize our processes. In the meantime, please don’t hesitate to contact me at any time with questions, ideas, or concerns. I welcome your feedback.
As a Golden resident and volunteer firefighter, I am proud to call Jefferson County home, and I am grateful for the opportunity to serve you.
Sincerely,
George P. Stern
Clerk and Recorder
