Temporary Election Workers (Judges)
Election workers are essential to ensuring that elections are a success. One of the most important ways you can get involved in promoting the freedom to vote and keeping our elections fair and accessible is by serving as an election worker.
If you are interested in being a temporary election worker with Jefferson County, please complete and submit an interest form.
We will begin hiring for the 2024 Presidential Primary on or about December 4th, 2023. Thank you for your interest in becoming a temporary election worker!
Requirements for Temporary Election Workers (Judges)
- 18 years of age or older (under 18? Click on the Student Election Workers tab)
- Registered to vote in Colorado
- A resident of Colorado
- Physically and mentally able to perform the duties
- Free of any conviction for fraud or election offenses
- Pass a background check
- Take an oath of office
- Available full time as needed during the election period, including some weekend days
- Not a candidate or a family member of a candidate on the ballot
- Attend all required trainings
- Arrange own transportation to and from work location
- Provide own meals/beverages for shift
Students can now experience the Election Day process and learn as they earn extra money.
Requirements
- Age 16 or 17 and Junior or Senior in good standing in high school
- A U.S. citizen on Election Day
- A resident of Colorado
- Physically and mentally able to perform the duties
- Free of any conviction for fraud or election offenses
- Not a family member of a candidate on the ballot
- Available to work on Election Day
- Arrange own transportation to and from work location
- Provide own meals/beverages for shift
How to Become a Student Election Judge

The Elections Division will contact appointed students and their parents with additional information, including details on training and your role and schedule on Election Day.
- Training is provided.
- Positions start anywhere from three months to two days before every election.
- All Position are paid and earn between $14 and $18 per hour. Per Colorado Statutes Title 1, Article 6.
- Jefferson County contracts with Job Store Staffing, an Independent outside resource that provides payroll services to all our temporary Election workers (Judges).
- Not all positions require a Bi-Partisan team.
- Please note per Colorado statues we are unable to contact "unaffiliated" judges until we have exhausted all major party caucus lists and no sooner than 60 days prior to the election.
- Election day is typically a long day and can be up to 14 hours.
