The DC Academy includes training in liability law, constitutional law, arrest control, firearms, driving, and jail operations. Academy graduates go on to work as deputy sheriffs in all facets of our detentions facility, including work release, booking, transportation, the special housing unit, and several other specialized areas. There are ancillary duties for the deputy to become involved in, such as Field Training Instructor, Crime Scene Technician, Special Operations Response Team, and more.
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office and Lakewood Combined Regional Law Enforcement Academy is a 20-week program designed to prepare graduates for a career as certified law enforcement officers. The academy trains officers from numerous municipal, county, and state agencies and is recognized as a leader in law enforcement instruction statewide.
