Salary

Salaries for all positions are competitive with any other law enforcement agency in the state. Annual increases are based on merit.

Health, Disability, Dental

Choice of several programs ranging from HMOs to PPOs. Employees can select the plan that best suits their needs.

Retirement

Participation in Jefferson County's 401(a) retirement plan begins on the employee's date of hire. The county matches retirement contributions and also offers optional 457 deferred compensation plans.

Paid Holidays

Because the calendar year has several legal holidays, and the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office must maintain service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, earned holiday time may be taken any time during the year, as scheduling permits.

Paid Time Off

A minimum of 6.315 hours per pay period is earned for professional employees and 6.46 hours per pay period is earned for sworn employees at the beginning of employment. Vacation time then increases on an established scale based on years of service. Paid time off is cumulative over more than one year, up to a predetermined total of hours.
