Background

On August 25, 2020, members of the Sustainability Commission, in partnership with Public Health, met with County Commissioners to brief them on the unfolding climate change crisis and ask for their approval to develop a Climate Action Plan.

On September 15, 2020, the Board approved the development of a Climate Action Plan as well as declaring Climate Change a critical priority for Jefferson County with the passage of Resolution CC20-254, Acknowledging the Global Climate Crisis and Affirming the County's Commitment to Climate Action.

With the passage of Resolution CC20-254, the Sustainability Commission and County staff contracted with Brendle Group and WestUrb to facilitate the development of a countywide Climate Action Plan that…

  • Is a science-backed and data driven roadmap for the Jefferson County community to address climate change
  • Sets GHG emission reductions goals
  • Develops goals, policies, and programs to adapt to the impacts of climate change
  • Is consistent with or exceeding Colorado state goals and objectives
  • Creates and prioritizes strategies to achieve these goals
  • Establishes a timeline for implementation and metrics for measuring progress
  • Engages county community members to achieve success
  • Focuses on equity to ensure all populations in the county have access to the benefits of climate action
