My Property Tax Bill Keeps Going Up – Why Does Jeffco Need to Ask for Money?
Jefferson County’s quality of life is unparalled. We have a reputation as a wonderful place to live, work, learn and play. However, the quality services the county provides to residents and local businesses come at a cost. Taxpayer dollars allow the county to deliver vital services but continued increasing demand for those services has created a significant financial challenge.
For every dollar the county collects from property taxes, 24 cents remains with the county to provide services. The remaining 76 cents goes to public schools, special districts and cities. Even though property values may increase, the amount of property tax revenue the county is allowed to collect is limited by the state constitution.
