Defensible Space & Wildfire Mitigation

Jefferson County requires residential development in wildfire hazard areas to comply with the wildfire mitigation standards of the Colorado State Forest Service. New residential developments and additions over 400 square feet must comply with these standards. New Development Projects, such as new subdivision plats, may also require wildfire mitigation. Please contact a Planner or Planning Engineer for more information.

Jefferson County also requires these standards to be inspected by a County-approved forester. Please refer to the Defensible Space Contact Sheet (PDF) for a list of the current approved contractors.
