About Pretrial

Pretrial Services is a neutral entity that collaborates with a variety of agencies to serve the Criminal Justice System in Jefferson and Gilpin Counties. Jefferson County Pretrial Services is comprised of two units: Pretrial Officer Unit and Pretrial Case Management Unit.

The Pretrial Officer Unit is located in the Jefferson County Detention Facility. This Unit screens and interviews persons arrested and booked into the jail 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, year-round. The main function of this Unit is to prepare a detailed Pretrial Report about each defendant arrested on new charges for the Court. The Pretrial Report includes a validated risk assessment and the defendant’s criminal history, among other factors. The Pretrial Report also includes information to aid Judges in making informed decisions when setting bond and bond conditions.

The Pretrial Case Management Unit is located inside of the Jefferson County Courthouse. This Unit is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. (closed on holidays).
