Board members study issues in-depth, oversee and make recommendations regarding specific county functions and assist in governing Jefferson County. Board members are citizen volunteers, appointed by the Board of County Commissioners.
The Planning Commission is appointed by the Board of County Commissioners to hear land use cases.
The Board of Adjustment (BOA) is a seven-member board that considers granting variances in cases where a property owner cannot meet the standards in their zone district; to consider granting special exceptions for temporary activities and to consider appeals of the Director of Planning and Zoning's written decisions, determinations and interpretations.
The Historical Commission is a volunteer group that promotes the preservation and use of historical resources and historic sites through educational activities, publications and research projects.
