Adult Mental Health Court

Adult Mental Health Court promotes safety through changing behavior by specifically addressing mental health issues.  Many people cycle in and out of the criminal justice system as a direct result of mental illness. Leaders in the criminal justice system in the First Judicial District and the Jefferson Center for Mental Health developed this smart approach to mental illness and public safety.

This problem-solving court addresses mental health treatment needs with closely monitored supervision and focused mental health treatment. Referrals to the court can be made by probation officers, prosecutors, mental health professionals or a judge.
