Individual Self-pay Lactation Consults
For many new parents (and their babies), breastfeeding can be awkward, uncomfortable and downright difficult at any time during the breastfeeding journey. At Jefferson County Public Health, you can receive the right advice and support to help you avoid the frustration.
JCPH is now offering lactation services on a sliding scale fee! Our International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs) can help with breastfeeding questions at any time during pregnancy and after baby’s birth.
We can help for many reasons. Here are just a few:
- You need extra breastfeeding support and reassurance
- Baby is not attaching to the breast
- You have sore or damaged nipples
- You have blocked ducts and/or mastitis
- Baby is fussy at the breast
- There are concerns about milk supply
- There are concerns about baby’s growth
- Feeding twins/multiples
- Expressing and storing breast milk
- Breastfeeding a baby who has challenges such as prematurity or medical conditions
- Returning to work or any separation from baby
- Teething and/or weaning
- Starting solid foods

Free breastfeeding classes are offered at the Lakewood, Arvada and Wheat Ridge WIC clinics. Spanish-speaking breastfeeding information can be provided on an individual basis. Classes are held monthly and last approximately one hour. Take-home material will be handed out during the class.

B.E.S.T.-Feeding Club — Breastfeeding Moms Group
Jefferson County Public Health and the Mothers’ Milk Bank have partnered together to provide a free breastfeeding moms group.

Mothers' Milk Bank Donation and Outreach Center
Our Lakewood WIC Clinic is the first WIC site in Colorado to become a Donation and Outreach Center for the Arvada-based Mothers' Milk Bank. If you are breastfeeding and have an abundance of human milk, please consider becoming a donor. Call the Mothers' Milk Bank at 303-369-1888 or visit their website to find out how! We support human milk donors by drawing blood, storing milk and preparing shipments to Mothers' Milk Bank.
