County Court


County Court is the people’s court, where most of the members of the public form their view of the criminal justice system. Prosecutors in the County Court handle the majority of the criminal cases filed in the First Judicial District.


In 2016, there were over 27,400 misdemeanor and traffic infraction cases filed in the County Court in Jefferson and Gilpin counties. Offenses include driving under the influence (DUI), careless driving resulting in death or injury, domestic violence, child abuse, assault, harassment, cruelty to animals, unlawful sexual contact, indecent exposure, and theft.
