Points West Syringe Services Program

Points West is the Syringe Services Program at Jefferson County Public Health. The mission of this program is to decrease the transmission of HIV and viral hepatitis, decrease improper disposal of used syringes, and to better address the needs of people who inject drugs.

Operating under the principles of Harm Reduction, participants in the Points West program may obtain new injection supplies as well as proper disposal of used syringes. In addition, program participants have access to:

  • Safer sex supplies (condoms, dental dams)
  • Testing and counseling for HIV and/or hepatitis C
  • Literature and advice about safer injection practices
  • Education on overdose prevention and response
  • Naloxone/Narcan
  • Referrals to substance use and/or mental health support, primary care providers, Medicaid enrollment or navigation, and other services as requested
