Leadership

Jefferson County has 10 elected officials: three members of the Board of County Commissioners, the Assessor, Clerk and Recorder, Coroner, District Attorney, Sheriff, Surveyor and Treasurer; and two appointed officials: the Executive Director of Public Health and Executive Director of the Public Library. As of July 1, 2020 the Treasurer is now the Public Trustee.

Elected and Appointed Officials

Assessor Scot Kersgaard

The Assessor's Office assigns values to county real estate and personal property, both taxable and tax-exempt, as the basis for property taxes set by various taxing authorities. Property owners are advised of each assessment and may appeal through a review process. The tax roll is prepared each December.

The Clerk and Recorder's Office administers election procedures and voter registration, acts as agent for the State Department of Revenue to handle motor vehicle transactions, issues marriage licenses, records real estate and other legal documents for posterity and reference, and serves as clerk to the Board of County Commissioners.

The Coroner's Office is responsible for the investigation and determination of the cause and manner of certain deaths in Jefferson County, as set by Colorado statute.

District Attorney Alexis King

The District Attorney's Office prosecutes all types of crimes and investigates criminal activity. The office provides services for victims and witnesses, including victim compensation and counseling services. It also maintains a diversion unit that offers prosecution alternatives for first-time offenders.

The Jefferson County Public Library's mission is to enrich the quality of life for all people in Jefferson County by providing resources for information, education and recreation. Public Trustee Jerry DiTullio

As of July 1, 2020, the treasurer will also serve as the public trustee. The Public Trustee’s Office is responsible for the administration of deeds of trust that appoint the office as trustee. This includes foreclosing on deeds of trust in the event of default, as well as releasing deeds of trust when a loan has been satisfied. Additionally, the public trustee collects tax accounts for land installment contracts within the county.

Sheriff Regina "Reggie" Marinelli

The Sheriff's Office is the chief law enforcement agency for the county by Colorado statute. The department investigates criminal matters and operates and maintains the county jail. Main phone number (non-emergency): 303-271-0211. In emergencies, call 911.

Surveyor Robert Hennessy 

The Surveyor represents the county in boundary disputes and notifies the county attorney of any unsettled boundary disputes or discrepancies within the county that may come to his attention.

Treasurer Jerry DiTullio

The Treasurer's Office is responsible for collecting real and personal property taxes, collecting county funds and disbursing funds to local government entities. The office has an automated phone system that is accessible to the public for retrieval of property tax information. To use that system, call 303-271-8322, using a touch tone phone.
