For genealogical purposes, however, this does establish the location of an ancestor at a certain time. In some instances, an address or city of residence may be listed. In addition, case names or numbers can presumably be looked up in the Court Records office for more information.

Docket books for cases heard in Jefferson County District Court. Dockets contain a brief summary of the court proceedings in criminal and civil cases with entries listing case number, names of parties, names of attorneys, cause of action, and order of the court.

Docket books provide narrative summaries of civil and criminal case proceedings. Information includes:

- Court costs
Civil books may include lists of marriages performed. Supplementary records such as summons, motions, receipts, etc. may accompany docket sheets.

Hand-written docket book of Probate Judges William Train Muir and Jonas M. Johnson containing settlement of estates, recording of marriages, and a few other miscellaneous legal matters. (Photocopy only - original docket book is held at the Colorado State Archives.)

Unprocessed archival collections have not been nicely re-foldered, re-boxed, or labeled, may not be arranged in any discernible order, and do not have finding aids written for them. They are, however, available to researchers unless in rare instances access restrictions have been placed upon them or redaction of sensitive information is required.
