C.24. Speeding
It shall be unlawful for any person to operate any vehicle or bicycle and/or be transported by any other conveyance, including but not limited to, roller skates, roller blades, skateboard, scooter, or horse, in excess of the posted speed limit on Open Space lands.
Fine: $50.00
C.19. Swimming and Boating
It shall be unlawful to swim, boat, or to float upon any flotation device, on any waters where so posted.
Fine: $50.00
Use of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS or Drones)
Jeffco Open Space regulations are an application of the County’s real property right and statutory powers to manage its lands for visitor safety and experience and to protect the land’s natural resources. The use of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS or drones) is banned in, on, from and over Jeffco Open Space lands and waters.
UAS are banned due to the following concerns related to visitor safety and experience: Unreasonable noise, privacy concerns, hazardous activity and negative impacts on wildlife behavior and wildlife watching.
UAS are banned due to the following concerns related to natural resource protection: UAS could startle or scare wildlife leading to nest abandonment, stampede, attack or other potentially harmful or hazardous behaviors. UAS increases stress levels in wildlife even if animals do not visually show stress in the presence of drones.
Applicable Open Space Rules and Regulations
C. 27.a Missiles and Crafts
It shall be unlawful to throw, discharge or launch any type of missiles or operate any type of remote controlled, self-powered rocket, missile or craft from or on Open Space lands and waters. Fine: $50.00
C.26.a Unreasonable Noise
It shall be unlawful to use sound amplification devices on Open Space lands or permit unreasonably loud noises that would disturb others. Fine: $50.00
C.9. Wildlife Protection
It shall be unlawful for any person, or any pet under their custody, control, or ownership to harass, chase, harm, capture, kill, maim, or possess any wildlife including but not limited to mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and fish on Open Space lands. Fine: $200.00
C.17. Hazardous Activity It shall be unlawful for any person to engage in any activity on Open Space lands that constitutes a hazard to the safety of self or other persons. Fine: $125.00
Violation
Constitutes a Class 2 Petty Offense, Maximum Penalty - $300 Fine, Pursuant to the Resolutions and Order No. CC87-358, CC87-1094 and CC88-352 Jefferson County Policy 6.4.1.C of the Board of County Commissioners and as authorized by CRS 29-7-101(2) as amended.
C.3. Feeding Wildlife
It shall be unlawful to feed, or attempt to feed, any wildlife on Open Space lands.
Fine: $50.00
C.8. Destruction of Wildlife Habitat
It shall be unlawful for any person, or any pet under their custody, control, or ownership, to alter, damage, destroy, remove or in any other way vandalize wildlife habitat features on Open Space lands, including but not limited to, animal dens, burrows, dwellings, or nests.
Fine: $150.00
C.9. Protection of Wildlife
It shall be unlawful for any person, or any pet under their custody, control, or ownership to harass, chase, harm, capture, kill, maim, or possess any wildlife including but not limited to mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and fish on Open Space lands.
Fine: $200.00
C.4. Releasing Wildlife
It shall be unlawful to release any wildlife or domesticated animal on Open Space lands.
Fine: $75.00
