Advisory Committee


The Fairgrounds Advisory Committee advises the Board of County Commissioners on capital construction and fees at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds. The Fairgrounds Advisory Committee determines allowable uses, procedures and regulations of the Fairgrounds. Seven regular members will serve three-year terms.

Fairgrounds Advisory Committee duties include:

  • Reviews and advises of allowable uses of the fairgrounds facilities.
  • Reviews and advises of the facility rental structure.
  • Reviews and advises on updates to the Fairground’s Master Plan.
  • Reviews proposals and/or resolution of significant conflicts involving fairgrounds users, neighbors or other stakeholders.
  • Takes on additional duties upon request of the Board of County Commissioners.
  • Reviews and advises of capital improvement needs at the fairgrounds.

The Fairgrounds Advisory Committee meetings are typically held at 7 p.m. every third Tuesday of each month at the Administrative Offices for Jefferson County Fairgrounds, 15200 West 6th Avenue, Golden, CO 80401.

Jeff Keller, Committee Member

Jeff Keller

Term Expires: September 2021

Jeff Keller began his service on the Fairgrounds Advisory Committee in 2014. This Jefferson County native and third-generation owner of APC Construction, Co. LLC, Mr. Keller is a Life Member and Board of Directors member of both the U.S. Team Penning Association (USTPA) and the Rocky Mountain Team Penning Association (RMTPA). He’s also a member of the National Western Stock Show Association and the Colorado Cattlemen’s Association.

Alejandra Major, Committee Member

Alejandra joined the Advisory Committee in September 2018, but growing up spent every weekend at the Fairgrounds as a member of Westernaires. Alejandra's professional experience has been centered around the people of Colorado, as a staff member in both the Colorado House of Representatives and U.S. Senate, and now at the Adolph Coors Foundation. In her free time, Alejandra enjoys crocheting and hanging out with her rescue pup from Foothills Animal Shelter.

Mary Miklos, Committee Member

Mary Miklos

A member of the Lakewood Riding Club, Jefferson County Horse Council and several other horse clubs, Mary Miklos has served as a member of the Fairgrounds Advisory Committee since 2008. A 37-year employee with the City of Arvada, Mary has been involved with activities at the Fairgrounds virtually her entire life. At a very early age, she participated in 4-H clubs, pups ‘n pals, horse clinics and other events. Today, in addition to participating in horse training and clinics, Ms. Miklos continues to be involved with several Fairgrounds events and activities.

Mark Skelton, Chairman

The current chairman of the Fairgrounds Advisory Committee, Mark Skelton has been serving on the board since 2000. A real estate broker with RE/MAX 100 Inc. for over 25 years, Mr. Skelton grew up in Jefferson County and has been active with Fairgrounds activities and events for nearly 50 years. A past member, parent and current instructor with the Westernaires, Mark has also served as a past member of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Mounted Posse as well as member and past director of the Roundup Riders of the Rockies.

Appointed in 1993, Mike Skelton has been a member of the Fairgrounds Advisory Committee for over 20 years. A former member of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Mounted Posse, Roundup Riders of the Rockies and current member / instructor with Westernaires, Mr. Skelton as been active with a variety of Fairgrounds activities for over 50 years. A real estate broker with RE/MAX 100 Inc., Mike and his wife, Pamela, first met at the Fairgrounds while riding as young members of the Westernaires over 46 years ago.
