Saturday, October 3, 2020, is the new date for the annual shred-a-thon with CrimeStoppers, FOX31 and Shred-it Inc. COVID-19 protocol based upon the recommendations that will be in place in October will be created. Please stay tuned for updates for this fall event at our headquarters.

UPDATED April 2, 2020: Though the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office partners annually with CrimeStoppers, FOX31 and the Shred-it Inc. document shredding company to help prevent identity theft by holding an annual Shred-a-thon every year in May at our headquarters, this year’s event has been CANCELED due to Covid-19.

The Shred-a-thon is a fundraiser for the Denver metro area CrimeStoppers chapter. Voluntary donations for CrimeStoppers will be accepted at each site. The non-profit CrimeStoppers chapter supports local law enforcement agencies by offering anonymous cash rewards to individuals who can help solve crime. Documents will be shredded on-site, with officers present.

Three copy paper boxes or kitchen garbage bags per person of: 

  • Bank statements
  • Bills
  • Carbon copies of checks
  • Credit card offers
  • Medical information
  • Old checks
  • Pay stubs
  • Receipts
  • Retirement statements

Prohibited items

  • Aluminum cans
  • Newspapers
  • Phone books
  • Plastic
