Concealed Handgun Permit (CHP)

 Applications will be accepted Tuesdays and Thursdays only between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.,
at the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office - 200 Jefferson County Parkway, Golden.
Incomplete applications will not be accepted.

Application, training certificate, valid Colorado driver's license and two sets of fees:
$100 to JCSO -- will only accept cash, MasterCard, VISA, money order, business check or cashier's/certified check
$52.50 to CBI -- will only accept a money order, business check or cashier's/certified check
(No personal checks will be accepted by JCSO or CBI)

New Applicants

Process components to be provided:

  1. A completed application (pdf), not signed.  Applications must be signed in the presence of the county sheriff or his designee.  A Supplemental Form (pdf) must be completed if you answer "yes" to #14 on the application.
  2. A copy of a valid Colorado driver's license or valid Colorado or military photo identification.
  3. Applicants are required to show proof of a completed firearms (handgun) safety or training course by providing an original or a copy of their original certificate  (details).
  4. Two non-refundable processing fees are required. 
  5. Application and attachments must be submitted in person to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Records Section, 200 Jefferson County Parkway in Golden, Colorado.  Applications will be accepted Tuesdays and Thursdays only, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. (map and directions).
  6. The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office will take one set of fingerprints.
  7. Once you are approved for a permit, you will be contacted to come back in.  At that time, you will be photographed and receive a permit card.


Renewal Applicants

Within 120 days prior to the expiration of your permit, you may submit an application.  The "Proof of Firearms Training" on the back of the application does not pertain to renewal applicants.

Process components to be provided:

  1. A completed application (pdf), not signed.  Applications must be signed in the presence of the county sheriff or their designee.  A Supplemental Form (pdf) must be completed if you answer "yes" to #14 on the application.
  2. A copy of a valid Colorado driver's license or valid Colorado or military photo identification.
  3. Two non-refundable processing fees are required.
  4. Application and attachments must be submitted in person to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Records Section, 200 Jefferson County Parkway in Golden, Colorado.  Applications will be accepted Tuesdays and Thursdays only, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.  (map and directions).
  5. Once you are approved for a permit, you will be contacted to come back in.  At that time, you will be photographed and receive a new permit card in exchange for your old permit card.


Retired Peace Officers

(Only Level 1 or 1a peace officers, who have retired within the past five years, are eligible for this permit.)

Process components to be provided:

  1. A completed application (pdf), not signed.  Applications must be signed in the presence of the county sheriff or his designee.  
  2. A recommendation letter from the previous chief or sheriff must be submitted.
  3. A copy of a certificate showing retirement from a Colorado law enforcement agency that reflects pistol qualifications within the past 10 years.
  4. A copy of a valid Colorado driver's license or valid Colorado or military photo identification.
  5. Application and attachments must be submitted in person to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Records Section, 200 Jefferson County Parkway in Golden, Colorado.  Applications will be accepted Tuesdays and Thursdays only, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.  (map and directions).
  6. Once you are approved for a permit, you will be contacted to come back in.  At that time, you will be photographed and receive a permit card.
