Re: Twenty Years Community Corrections for Littleton Man Convicted of Embezzling $1.46 Million

The former chief financial officer of International Risk Group (IRG) John R. Jackson, 50, was sentenced to Community Corrections for 20 years for embezzling $1.46 million from the company’s coffers.

Jackson, who lives in Littleton, was indicted by First Judicial District Grand Jury in August, 2009.  On November 2, he pled guilty to four counts of felony theft, each count a class three felony.  Jackson was sentenced on January 11 by District Judge Christopher Munch.

The International Risk Group is based in Littleton and their primary business is acquiring real estate that is contaminated or has other environmental issues and overseeing the environmental cleanup of the property.  Until February, 2009 Jackson as CFO was responsible for the finances of IRG, including paying staff bonuses when authorized.  He was given exclusive control over financial matters of IRG, including administering and overseeing payroll.

Between September 2003 and February 2009, Jackson gave himself “bonuses” as part of the regular payroll and otherwise diverting the company’s funds for his personal use in excess of $1.46 million.  Jackson was not authorized to give himself these bonuses.

“We are pleased with this sentence,” said District Attorney Scott Storey. “This was Mr. Jackson’s first felony conviction and I believe it sends a strong message to the community that white collar crime will be prosecuted just as aggressively as any other crime committed in Jefferson County.”
